The Chateau of Happily Ever Afters

Where dreams come true…?

Wendy Clayton stopped believing in fairy tales a long time ago. Instead, she has a ‘nice’ life. Nice job. Nice flat. Absolutely no men. Until her life is turned upside-down when her elderly neighbour, Eulalie, passes away and leaves her the Château of Happily Ever Afters!
But there’s a catch: she must share the sprawling French castle with Eulalie’s long-lost nephew, Julian. And no matter how gorgeous he is, or how easily she finds herself falling head over heels, Wendy needs to find a way to get rid of him…
Because surely happily ever afters don’t happen in real life?

Escape to beautiful France this summer with this uplifting romantic comedy. Perfect for fans of Kat French, Caroline Roberts, and Holly Martin.

The Chateau of Happily Ever Afters:
Will also be available from all other ebook retailers.

Both sweet and beautiful describe this gentle and unexpected romance.
There is magic in the air in France. Could it also be within the walls of an abandoned chateau?
Two people down on their luck and feeling bitter about past love experiences, who seem to have nothing in common, inherit a massive property together. How long can they coexist without someone taking a header into their shared moat?
This gentle love story, between each of the parties and the property as well as eventually between each other, reminds me of books by Bette Lee Crosby. You grow to admire and care for the characters, but sometimes you want to shake them, too. The supporting cast of friends are wonderful as well.
When they find out they have inherited a property that was believed to be only the stuff of fairy tales, they don't know if they have a treasure hunt on their hands or a money pit. This is a discovery about self as well as learning to trust the other.

Crystal Cropper, editor of the Elmwood Gazette, has added incentive in finding out who killed Horace Q. Ogilvie, owner of the local radio station and the most reviled man in town. Horace turns up dead minutes before he is supposed to broadcast his next malicious editorial, designed to destroy yet another Elmwood luminary. Fortunately for the police department, Horace's list of future targets provides an abundant pool of suspects. Unfortunately for Crystal, her name is at the top!

Crystal Cropper is editor of the newspaper in small town Elmwood, Indiana but she has big city talent when it comes to sniffing out a story. Being best friends with the sheriff does have its benefits, but it is her friendship with cleaning lady Gert that finds her the real dirt. Except that Crystal still can't discover the truth behind Gertie's background. This adds excitement and intrigue to the series.
The media competition in Elmwood is a local radio station, owned and controlled by crotchety Horace Q. Ogilvie. If he has a good side, it is well hidden. So when he is found dead the number of suspects is almost as high as Elmwood's population.

This is a fast paced story with all the elements devoted cozy readers clamor for. The deadly deeds are backed up with subtle humor and lovably quirky characters. I figured out one answer soon enough but was not bored before the shocking reveal.

About This Author Janis Thornton is a freelance writer, personal historian, and award-winning journalist. She is the author of two local history books, Images of America: Tipton County and Images of America: Frankfort.
She is a member of Sisters in Crime, the Indiana Writers Center, Association of Personal Historians, and the Midwest Writers Workshop Planning Committee.
She lives in a small Indiana town not unlike Elmwood.
Dust Bunnies and Dead Bodies is her debut cozy mystery.

A Crime of Passion Fruit by Ellie Alexander

Cozy Mystery 6th in Series
St. Martin's Paperbacks (June 27, 2017)
Mass Market Paperback: 288 pages ISBN-13: 978-1250088079
E-Book ASIN: B01MRU56AS

Torte―everybody’s favorite small-town family bakeshop―is headed for the high seas, where murder is about to make a splash. . . Jules Capshaw is trying to keep her cool as Torte gets set to make its transformation from quaint, local confectionary café to royal pastry palace. Meanwhile, Jules’s estranged husband Carlos is making a desperate plea for her to come aboard his cruise ship and dazzle everyone with her signature sweets. She may be skeptical about returning to her former nautical life with Carlos but Jules can’t resist an all-expense-paid trip, either. If only she knew that a dead body would find its way onto the itinerary . . “A warm and inviting atmosphere, friendly and likable main characters, and a nasty murder mystery to solve!” ―Fresh Fiction Now, instead of enjoying tropical drinks on deck between whipping up batches of sea-salted chocolates and flambéing fresh pineapple slices in the kitchen, Jules is plunged into dangerous waters. Her investigation leaves her with more questions than answers: Why can’t anyone on board identify the young woman? And how can she help Carlos keep passengers at ease with a killer in their midst? Jules feels like she’s ready to jump ship. Can she solve this case without getting in too deep? “A perfect mix for fans of Jenn McKinlay, Leslie Budewitz, or Jessica Beck.” ―Library Journal

Ellie Alexander's prose has a lyrical quality to it with beautiful, rolling, descriptive passages. Very fitting for a novel set on a stormy sea cruise. Add in some quotes from The Bard and this is a word lover's dream cozy. More like a nightmare vacation for the Professor, who has a dreamier vision for this chance to get away with Helen, chef Jules Capshaw's mother. When Jules stumbles upon a floating body, it becomes a working vacation for the Professor.
It was already a working assignment for Jules, who joins her estranged husband,Carlos, preparing food on a mid-sized tour ship, the Amour of the Seas. She struggles to keep her focus on her job and off the mystery of the unknown victim.

Don't read this book while you are hungry! The food descriptions are so enticing you will drool.
I doubt real cruise ships offer fare as delicious and creative. There are recipes included at the end of this book. Having never been on a cruise, I found the behind the scenes descriptions fascinating.

Book Description:

Question: what do you get the man with everything?

Answer: when that man is the heir of the late mystery writer Robin Spencer, retired homicide detective Mac Faraday, you get him a cold case to solve.

In Shades of Murder, Mac Faraday is once again the heir to an unbelievable fortune. This time the benefactor is a collector of stolen art. But this isn't just any stolen work of art - it's a masterpiece with a murder attached to it.

Ilysa Ramsay was in the midst of taking the art world by storm with her artistic genius. Hours after unveiling her latest masterpiece, she is found dead in her Deep Creek Lake studio, and her painting is nowhere to be found.

Almost a decade later, the long lost Ilysa Ramsay masterpiece has found its way into Mac Faraday's hands and he can't resist the urge to delve into the case.

A world away, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, former JAG lawyer Joshua Thornton agrees to do a favor for the last person he would ever expect - a convicted serial killer.

The favor: solve the one murder wrongly attributed to him.

Joshua finds an unexpected ally in Cameron Gates, a spunky detective who has reason to believe the young woman known to the media only as Jane Doe, victim number four, was the victim of a copycat. Together, Joshua and Cameron set out to light a flame under the cold case only to find that someone behind the scenes wants the case to remain cold, and is willing to kill to keep it that way.

Little do these detectives know that the paths of their respective cases are on a collision course when they follow the clues to bring them together in a showdown with a killer who's got a talent for murder!

Book Description:

Never tell Mac Faraday not to do something.

Spencer's police chief, David O'Callaghan, learns this lesson the hard way when he orders Mac Faraday to stay away from the south end of Spencer's mountaintop - even though he owns the property. It doesn't take long for Mac to find out what lies on the other side of the stone wall and locked gate, on which hangs a sign warning visitors to Keep Out!

Topping the list of the 10 top haunted places in America, Astaire Castle is associated with two suicides, three mysterious disappearances, and four murders since it was built almost a century ago - and Mac Faraday owns it!

In spite of David's warning, Mac can't resist unlocking the gate to see the castle that supposedly hasn't seen a living soul since his late mother had ordered it closed up after the double homicide and disappearance of Damian Wagner, a world-famous master of horror novels.

What starts out as a quick tour of a dusty old castle turns into another Mac Faraday adventure when Astaire Castle becomes the scene of even more murders. Mac is going to need to put all of his investigative talents to work to sort out this case that involves the strangest characters he has run into yet - including a wolf man. No, we're not talking about Gnarly.

Three years later, after failing to catapult her notoriety into a long-lasting celebrity, Khloe Everest returns to Spencer upon her mother's sudden death and seemingly finds another weapon to propel herself into the spotlight. Unfortunately, someone kills her before she can make this entrance.

In Lauren Carr's sixth Mac Faraday Mystery, Mac and his friends come up against reality stars, politicians, has-beens, and wannabes. Mac also finds himself face-to-face with an old foe from his past who had managed to escape arrest during their last encounter. An interview with Mike Alger, narrator of  Killer in the BandDead on IceShades of MurderReal Murder and The Lady Who Cried Murder

Is Public Speaking More Difficult for You than Recorded Speaking?

Thanks for asking. I am probably one of the oddities when it comes to doing voice-over and narration work, in that I come at it in many ways from a public speaking point of view. In my “other life,” I am a television meteorologist…a job that I have spent over 30 years doing, and in a nutshell, even though my “visual audience” consists of a camera and a few co-workers in a studio, I am still cognizant of speaking to many tens of thousands of pairs of eyeballs at any one time…live. As a result, I’m quite comfortable talking in front of large audiences. But when it comes down to it, what we do, whether it is reading a script in a studio or speaking to an auditorium full of people, we are still communicating, and that ability to communicate is critical whether we are speaking our own words, or reading another’s. In fact, I recommend that anybody who wants to do voiceover or narration try to do as much public speaking as possible. When you use your own words, you almost always sound natural, and once you do that, it’s easier to sound natural even if you are speaking on behalf of an author. And when a great author writes naturally, like Lauren Carr does, it’s a lot easier to make it sound like it’s your own.

To give you an idea of my background, as I mentioned I’ve been in broadcasting for over 30 years, most of which as the Chief Meteorologist for KTVN-TV in Reno, NV. A TV Meteorologist is kind of a funny combination of being a scientist and a performer, which is an odd set of character traits, but which fits me quite well. Since I’ve been talking “professionally” for the better portion of my life, book narration is a pretty natural field for me.

A broadcast veteran of over 30 years, Mike Alger is best known as the award-winning Chief Meteorologist for KTVN-TV in Reno, NV. He is also a successful author, having penned the Mystery-Thriller novel "Snow Storm," and is the narrator of the audiobook of the same name.

So many different elements make this a compelling read or listen. I enjoyed the audio edition.
Some of the things that drew me to this book, besides the author, whose other books and series I have given high review marks to, included the "where are they now" aspect of a popular band, animal communications, and once again learning more about the complicated relationships of the Gates-Thornton family.
Danger is always in the air and just around each corner when Lauren Carr tells a story. In this one, the results are bodies piling up, some recent, another just being discovered to solve a decades long mystery. The smallest detail can open up a string of discoveries.
Can Cameron and stepson J.J. survive long enough to figure out why they don't get along?

The Thorny Rose Mystery Series:

Five women with seemingly nothing in common are found brutally murdered in a townhome outside Washington, DC. Among the many questions surrounding the massacre is what had brought these apparent strangers together only to be killed.

Before long, the case takes an unexpected turn when Murphy discovers that one of the victims has a connection to his stepmother, Homicide Detective Cameron Gates. One wintry night, over a dozen years before, her first husband, a Pennsylvania State trooper, had been run down while working a night shift on the turnpike.

In this first installment of the Thorny Rose Mysteries, Lieutenant Murphy Thornton and Jessica Faraday sift through a web of lies and cover-ups. Together, can the detectives uncover the truth without falling victim to a cunning killer?

Book Description:

After 10 months of marital bliss, Jessica Faraday and Murphy Thornton are still discovering and adjusting to their life together. Settled in their new home, everything appears to be perfect...except in the middle of the night when, in the darkest shadows of her subconscious, a deep secret from Jessica's past creeps to the surface to make her strike out at Murphy.

When investigative journalist Dallas Walker tells the couple about her latest case, known as the Pine Bridge Massacre, they realize Jessica may have witnessed the murder of a family while visiting family at the winery near-by, and suppressed the memory.

Determined to uncover the truth and find justice for the murder victims, Jessica and Murphy return to the scene of the crime with Dallas Walker, a spunky bull-headed Texan. Can this family reunion bring closure for a community touched by tragedy or will this prickly get-together bring an end to the Thorny Rose couple?

Content Rating:

All of Lauren Carr's books are rated PG-13 because they are murder mysteries and will contains murder scenes. Some of the books contain violence associated with military assignments. There are some books that contain sex scenes which are not explicit. There is little profanity, no f-words.

ISBN: 9781250099778
Genre: Fiction/Historical/Mystery

FROM THE AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR OF THE MEMORY PAINTER COMES A SWEEPING AND SUSPENSEFUL TALE OF ROMANCE, FATE, AND FORTUNE.

Semele Cavnow appraises antiquities for an exclusive Manhattan auction house, deciphering ancient texts—and when she discovers a manuscript written in the time of Cleopatra, she knows it will be the find of her career. Its author tells the story of a priceless tarot deck, now lost to history, but as Semele delves further, she realizes the manuscript is more than it seems.
Both a memoir and a prophecy, it appears to be the work of a powerful seer, describing devastating wars and natural disasters in detail thousands of years before they occurred. The more she reads, the more the manuscript begins to affect Semele’s life. But what happened to the tarot deck?
As the mystery of her connection to its story deepens, Semele can’t shake the feeling that she’s being followed. Only one person can help her make sense of it all: her client, Theo Bossard.
Yet Theo is arrogant and elusive, concealing secrets of his own, and there’s more to Semele’s desire to speak with him than she would like to admit. Can Semele even trust him? The auction date is swiftly approaching, and someone wants to interfere—someone who knows the cards exist, and that the Bossard manuscript is tied to her. Semele realizes it’s up to her to stop them: the manuscript holds the key to a two-thousand-year-old secret, a secret someone will do anything to possess.
