MURDER SHE SLOPES BOOK BLAST and review

Cozy Mystery 2nd in Series
Release Date - November 26, 2017
Print Length: 214 pages
ASIN: B075CTKP2B

Sirens ring. Are you listening? Near Candy Cane Lane. A Body is glistening. A murderous sight. Trubble's investigating tonight. Walking through this winter wonderland.
It's the week before Christmas and Investigative Journalist Penelope Trubble has reluctantly agreed to investigate the death of a woman at the Sleighs & Slopes Adventure Resort in the hopes of exonerating her her husband—who just happens to be Penny’s ex. But with so many suspicious characters lurking in the trees, Penelope risks being strangled by clues, Christmas lights, conjecture, and catastrophe. It doesn’t help that Penny's still a little frosty with the man accused of icing his bride, and she must prove he's no cold-blooded killer. At least there’s candy-cane cocoa, a roaring fire, and the Laurentian Mountains to savor—not to mention the hunky detective dashing through the snow after her. Helping an ex is a slippery slope, and things are going downhill fast for Penelope Trubble.

When Penny Trubble is called by her cheating ex-boyfriend to investigate the murder of his wife, she tries everything in her power to say no. When she finds herself at a snow covered theme resort trying to make sense of a lot of random clues, there is no end to the people wanting to help her. The information she discovers seems to lead to more questions than answers. It also leads to more bodies.
A captivating cozy mystery to enjoy in front of a roaring fire.
The characters all have something in their backgrounds to hide and connections between them are elusive. Can Penny solve this case before she ends up being the next victim?

The Discombobulated Decipherers

The Discombobulated Decipherers by Julie Seedorf

Cozy Mystery 2nd in Series
Self Published (November 21, 2017)
Print Length: 195 pages
ASIN: B076Z3YFYQ

It’s Christmas in Brilliant, Minnesota, and Brilliant is known for its glitzy Christmas traditions. A world-renowned Christmas pageant, the town square decked out with Santa’s Village and a live nativity scene bring visitors to Brilliant each year. Just as the tourists arrive, Jezabelle Jingle and her mystery writer friend, Miranda, find the body of Ernest the elf dead and wrapped in a bundle of Christmas lights in the town square. Is Ernest part of a new holiday puzzle the Discombobulated Decipherers need to solve? Or is dead Ernest part of a bigger plot? Will Jezabelle decipher the clues so Brilliant can celebrate Christmas in peace? Or will Jezabelle be the next gift-wrapped box under the village tree?

Jingle Bells! Jingle Bells! I can’t tell you how many times I get teased with those words because of my name. My last name is Jingle. Apparently my father didn’t like his given last name – he never told me what it was – so he changed his last name to Jingle because his grandfather always called him jingles, referring to the bells he carried in his pocket when he was a child. He was enchanted by bells and they made him happy. That explains my last name.

My first name is Jezabelle. I know...I know...Jezebel in the Bible was not a nice woman and people are aghast because my mother named me Jezabelle. You might notice my name is not spelled the same as the Jezebel in the Bible. When I asked my mother why she gave me the name Jezabelle, she said it had spark and she was sure I was going to be sassy. My mother didn’t put much stock in what someone else was named. There were many names out there she liked even if she didn’t care for the person having the name. She explained she wasn’t going to hold the name hostage because of her aversion to the person wearing the name. Yes, my mother was a little unusual too. She was her own woman and my father, well... what you can you expect from someone that takes the name Jingle.

I live in Brilliant, Minnesota not too far from Fuchsia, Minnesota. Where Fuchsia is strange and weird, Brilliant is more structured. It was founded by seven brothers. They set up the city, moved their families and their spouse’s families to town and created a legacy to their name. As of now most places have the name Brilliant on them, although that changed recently when we renamed the library the Lackadaisical Meanderings Library. Then poof, according to legend the Brilliant brothers and their families disappeared, never to be heard from again, and they left the community a ghost town until outsiders moved in and reestablished the town keeping everything as it was.

I live in the Penderghast Neighborhood. It wasn’t until recently that I became close to my neighbors when we discovered a puzzle the Brilliant brothers left for the town. Why it took this community so many years to discover all the puzzles the brothers left for us is beyond me, except for the fact people are so brilliant here they don’t always think outside of the box and see things that don’t make sense.

I love to bake and recently, along with my best friend, Lizzy, bought the Brilliant Bistro bringing my baking skills to the bistro.  I am not so old that I can’t have a little romance in my life too but I keep my admirer secret because Brilliantites are nosy. The only relative I have close to me is Delight Delure and her daughter from Fuchsia. Every once in a while, Delight brings that pesky Granny to visit. She is trying to get us together to compare our sleuthing abilities but Granny and I are oil and water.

I must go. It was nice meeting you. Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat. Please join us for our Christmas Pageant and all the happenings in Brilliant’s town square. It has been quite busy since Ernest the elf met his demise. Between preparing for our world-renowned Christmas Pageant and being aware there is a murderer on the loose, we are working hard to keep the Christmas spirit alive. Perhaps you can help us. See you there.

Not having read the previous book, I did feel like I was missing some inside information at the start of this book. I was able to catch up as the story and mysteries unfolded.
An elf is found frozen, dead in the town square.  Santa is acting oddly elusive. The church handyman is missing and a nosy reporter disappears. Are all those things connected?
What about the odd glass cubes found around town?
Lots of clues and details popping up without knowing what any of them meant.Fun characters and unusual circumstances make for an enjoyable read.

This town must be near Golden Girl Rose's St. Olaf. Everyone seems to be spying on everyone else. There are no short tales. Each story takes a bizarre twist.

About the Author

As human beings, we are always a work in progress. From birth to death we live, hurt, laugh, cry, feel, and with all of those emotions we grow as people, as family members, and as friends. I am a dreamer and feel blessed to have the opportunity in my writing to pass those dreams on to others. I believe you are never too old to dream and to turn those dreams into a creative endeavor. I live in rural Minnesota and I am a wife, mother, and grandmother.
I have worn many hats throughout my lifetime such as working as a waitress, nursing home activities, office manager and finally computer repair person eventually owning my own computer repair business. I never forgot my love of writing and quit my computer business in 2012 after signing a contract with Cozy Cat Press for Granny Hooks A Crook, the first book in my Fuchsia, Minnesota Series.
Adding four more books to the Fuchsia Series, adding a new Brilliant, Minnesota Series and writing a column for local newspapers feeds my writing creativity.
I also dabble a bit in watercolor painting and hope to eventually add pictures to my children’s book series, Granny’s In Trouble.
Oh, and did I tell you I like to be a little bit silly.

Ours is the Winter Author: Laurie Ellingham

Journeying across the Arctic, their pasts are about to catch up with them.
Erica, Molly and Noah are embarking on the challenge of a lifetime, driving Siberian huskies across the frozen wilderness of the Arctic.

Cut off from the world and their loved ones and thrown together under gruelling conditions, it isn’t long before the cracks start to show.

Erica has it all. A loving husband, a successful career and the most adorable baby daughter. But Erica has been living a double life, and as she nears her fortieth birthday her lies threaten to come crashing down.
Molly was on her way to stardom. But when her brother died, so did her dreams of becoming an Olympic champion. Consumed by rage and grief, she has shut out everyone around her, but now she’s about to learn that comfort can come from the most unexpected places.
Noah has a darkness inside him and is hounded by nightmares from his past. Tortured, trapped and struggling to save his fractured relationship, he knows this journey is not going to help, but try telling his girlfriend that.

As their lives and lies become ever more entwined, it becomes clear that in the frozen wilds there is nowhere to hide.

Adventure, danger, romance and discovering truth, about self and others
What drew me to the book was the dogs and the idea of an "amateur" adventure. It is not something I would consider doing, but I'd love to go along and observe.
Why would people sign on for sleeping outdoors in subzero temps and punish their bodies physically with only heat- and -eat meals as a reward?
What could drive a mother to leave her young child, on the break-through of so many firsts, to spend time with a half-sister who doesn't seem to want anything to do with her?
If you enjoy figuring out people's motivations you may enjoy this novel.

There is a dark thread that connects the adventurers on this journey, but they don't know it at the beginning. Everyone has secrets. Each has something they are running from or chasing.
Told from alternating points of view, I appreciated how the details unfolded as miles are covered.
I felt like I was right there on the frozen tundra with them, picturing a vast white expanse and speeding through the trees. When the final conflict arose, I was on the edge of my chair and holding my breath.

Author bio: When I'm not running around after my two children, my husband, our Cockerpoo Rodney, or just plain running, I love nothing more than disappearing into the fictional world of my characters preferably with a large coffee and a Twix (or two) to hand.

When I am in the thick of a character crisis, I can often be seen walking around the village with my jumper on inside out and back to front, chatting (and occasionally laughing) away to myself.

I have a first class honours degree in psychology and a background in Public Relations, both of which help in everything I do.

Excerpt From 21 Days to Happiness
Day 1 - Gratitude: Focus on What You Have

Here are two of my favorite gratitude habits:
Morning: Every morning before my feet touch the floor, I grab my little gratitude journal from my night table. I’m supposed to write down three things I am grateful for, but the funny thing is, I can never stop at three!
Every day, I end up filling a page. When I started this practice about three years ago, I would often think of serious things (my health, family, career…). Now, anything goes: my comfy bed, the sun on my face, my boys, my dog Snoopy licking my toes, the cappuccino with a cinnamon heart my husband just made for me or my favorite TV show.
Psychologists call this free association. Just write whatever comes to mind without judging or overthinking. It’s faster and more fun. From time to time, I re-read a few pages, and it always puts a smile on my face.
Bonus tip: I often write down things that haven’t happened yet. For example, I’m now trying tosell my house. I often write down “I am thankful for the great and easy sale of my house,” and I imagine how I will feel when I see the red SOLD sign. It’s an instant morale boost.
Night: Every night, on a small piece of paper, I write one thing that happened that day that I am grateful for, and put it in a jar. Every December during the holidays, I look at the slips of paper in my pajamas as I sip my cappuccino by the fireplace. This is a great family activity as well. Everyone has their own gratitude jar, and each person reads a few of their notes at the start of the new year.
Try this now
Write down three things you are grateful for:
1.
2.
3.
Resources
Video:
Grateful Girl - Start each morning like this little girl does (no need to stand on your bathroom counter). How great does she feel? What could you do to feel this good?
APPS:
If you are technically inclined, here is an APP called “Happier”. You can record what you are grateful for, and program a reminder as well. Available on iOS and Android.
I also love the simple APP “Three Good Things” Available on iOS.

I wish I had written this book. I am happy Ingrid did write this book. I think it should be available to all high school age children and offered in every first year Psychology course, among others.
Well researched and wonderfully presented, the book not only gives us easy to follow steps to increase our satisfaction with life and happiness in the moment, it explains why each action works.
The author goes on to share how she puts each principle to work in her daily life. She shows that it is possible.
This is a book that will not just sit on my shelf or bedside table. I will refer back to different sections and use the links and ideas presented.

Kindred Spirits

Kindred Spirits

Whitney Dineen

Dashing and successful, Richard Bingham has been voted one of the top ten bachelors in New York City. After unwittingly offending a reporter from Manhattan Life magazine, he finds himself on the receiving end of an article that makes his quest of finding the perfect mate nearly impossible.

Title: Kindred Spirits
Author: Whitney Dineen
Genre: Chicklit / Romance

After one dating disaster too many, Richard decides it’s time to seek professional help, so he signs up for the matchmaking services of the East Side Yenta.
Philippa Fielding is single and searching for love in London, but her accidental profession of “Message Deliverer from the Great Beyond” puts most men right off.
Will Pip’s new "Spirit Helper," Bertram, be able to set her on the course for true love with a message for Richard?
Matchmaking, misunderstandings, and mayhem abound in this fast-paced romantic comedy about love, life, and the afterlife!

Honey called the bachelors onto the stage one at a time. They were greeted with very unladylike wolf-whistles and catcalls. The duchess calmed the audience down long enough to share pertinent information about the men, like, “Number eight is Sir Thomas Hawtrey, eighth Viscount Farnsworthy. Viscount Hawtrey is thirty-nine, he likes to hunt, golf, and work on his family’s vineyard. Let’s start the bidding at five hundred pounds!”
The women went wild. A night with Sir Thomas eventually sold for twenty-two hundred pounds. At this rate, Richard realized, the Childhood Lupus Foundation was in for quite a hefty donation.
Not every bachelor started at five hundred pounds. Most started at two hundred, but the bounty increased along with title and prestige. Richard wondered what he’d be worth in the end. He didn’t have to wait long to find out.
Honey announced, “And now a very special bachelor all the way from New York City. I’d like you to meet bachelor number fourteen, Richard Bingham!”
Richard wasn’t sure if the volume had increased because the ladies were really that interested in him or because they’d had nearly an hour to consume more cocktails and get worked up by the proceedings. Either way, it was a bit invigorating to be on the receiving end of such adoration.
The dowager duchess continued, “Quiet down, ladies, so I can tell you about this gorgeous specimen.” They hushed immediately, as they clearly wanted to know more. “According to Manhattan Life magazine, Mr. Bingham is one of the top ten eligible bachelors in New York, but according to us, he’s number one!” The applause drew out for several moments. Eventually she added, “Richard owns one of the largest advertising agencies in the city. When he’s not working, he likes to spend time on his boat, visit his mother, and drive upstate to buy pies.” The cheering nearly brought the house down.
Honey added, “Because Mr. Bingham is a rather exotic addition to our event, we’re going to start the bidding at eight hundred pounds!”
Hands flew into the air at an alarming rate and before too many minutes had passed, the bidding had reached three thousand pounds. Pip watched excitedly as more and more women jumped into the fray. By the time his price hit six thousand pounds, only a couple of women were left. Philippa had yet to raise her hand.

When the bidding hit seven thousands pounds Richard turned and caught her eye. Her knees nearly gave out from under her as the air between them crackled with electricity. Pip slowly walked toward him. The whole room grew quiet when she reached his side and announced, “I’ll take him for ten thousand, Honey.” Then looking at the crowd she added, “Unless there’s another bid?” There wasn’t.

Mimi who? You don't have to have read abut Mimi's adventures to enjoy this look into her good friend Richard's life and that of her star crossed sister-in-law Pip. But you will enjoy any book authored by Whitney Dineen.
Sometimes her humor has a dark shading but more often it is laugh out loud. She builds wonderfully likeable characters. This time she crosses between the living world and... well, who really knows what comes next.
This book takes another try at the dating world, with some thirty-somethings feeling they are ready to settle down. Is it better to muddle through alone or get professional help? Thank goodness for close friends and those who believe in us.
Even when told by "reliable sources" the direction to take, Pip has trouble following through. She is almost afraid to set her sights and hopes on the largest prize. Richard has those same doubts, but he is not willing to settle for anything less than the absolute best. Until he discovers what, or should I say WHO, that is.
With a little overlap into Mimi's world, and how she finally grabbed true love, come get to know Whitney Dineen and her friends and enjoy a little romance in your life.

Whitney Dineen is a multi-award-winning author of romantic comedies, non-fiction humor and middle reader fiction. When she’s not spinning stories, Whitney’s raising her young daughters, wrangling chicken, or eating french fries, not necessarily in that order.

Another enjoyale romance in a fun series.  Who is featured and the love connection made surprised me.  I was glad to see all my favorite characters were well represented.

I knew Tristan had a thing for MJ but is an honorable guy and a great friend. His character shines through, which was partly why I was so surprised at who he was paired with.  To be honest, previously she was a little bit scary.  At times here she even comes across as lonely and desperate, but aren't we all at times.

Grace has a history of choosing the wrong men or trying not to make waves. When she finally meets a really good guy, she can't believe it so doesn't go out of her way to get all the correct information. It seems easier to keep him as a friend rather than risk losing him.
Well written and entertaining. The bad parts, even when expected, are shocking.

I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. Characters it was easy to care about.
I wanted Grace to get her happy ending. She must survive and struggle for it.

Any McClung writes marvelous character driven romance. She makes readers experience a wide range of emotions. Any happy endings must be worked for. Very much worth getting emotionally invested.Miscommunications abound but friendship and love continue to try and find a way.
While this is more Derrick's story, our hearts also go out to Gavin and I enjoyed meeting Tristan.

High Witch series

High Witch
High Witch Book 1
by Mona Hanna
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Brayden dreams for thirty nights, tortured by the vision of a beautiful woman. When Ariel Williams walks into his inn, he sees that she's the one he's been obsessed with in his night time journeys. But Ariel is fleeing an arranged marriage and keeps shyly to herself, until the worst happens and by mistake she casts a spell on a guest. Brayden works with Ariel to help her control her magic but discovers she's a High Witch - one of only three witches in the world with a rare kind of power.

Immediately the two must flee; evil warlock Julius wants to enslave Ariel - mind, heart and body. Julius and his lover the High Witch Nadia will stop at nothing to capture Ariel, and the danger threatens to tear Ariel apart from Brayden. Ariel's only hope is that her love for Brayden and her newly-discovered powers are strong enough to save them.

This is a NOVELLA of approximately 25,000 words.

**FREE on all retailers!!**

Written with a softly beautiful descriptive quality, set in a time of magic, yet a time when it is not universally accepted,  Ariel is young and naive, with a gentle sweetness about her.
Braden is idealistic with hopes that love can conquer all, but when things go darker he becomes realistic.
Magical realism with much romance.

Witch Emerging
High Witch Book 2

After surviving being hunted by Julius, Brayden and Ariel settle into their married life. Ariel is determined to find the other High Witches to make sure they’re alright. But there’s something going on with her pregnancy, something unusual, and she needs to find out what.

In the meantime, Hallie, an eighteen-year-old witch, is being pursued by Nicholas, a strange young man who knows about her past. What does Nicholas want with Hallie, and how are they both connected to Ariel? And what about Sean, the man Hallie loves? Will they end up together, or will Nicholas’ plan hurt all of them? The two witches will need to work hard to save those they love, and each other.

This book is approximately 44,000 words, or 150 pages in print.

Ariel and Brayden's story continues with them expecting a child.  Both parents continue to display innocent characteristics. They know they must find the other two High Witches, all the time wondering if Ariel's survival altered the rules. We meet a younger High Witch, Hallie, who is learning to control her magic as Ariel had to in the first book. She has a protector, Sean, a childhood friend, who I will admit was not my favorite character. It took a while but I was happy to see some growth in his character.
Because of the recurring themes in this second book I feel the reader should start this series at the beginning. The characters from book one begin to recognize the same patterns they endured, but this time the evil one is after revenge before anything else.

High Coven
High Witch Book 3

Ariel is getting used to being a new mother and is excited to see her best friends Hallie and Sean again. She just wants to spend time with them and relax and hear about their wedding. Unfortunately, relaxing is the last thing any of them can do on this visit.

Thrust into a new place, the High Witches are delighted to find the fourth—but the circumstances couldn’t be worse. A group of men are determined to stop them from casting a spell that could change the world, bringing immense joy but also great disaster. The risks of the spell might be beyond their ability to handle.

A great darkness is coming. It will take more than two High Witches to stop it: it will take a coven.

High Coven is the third and final book in the High Witch series.

This final book of the trilogy brings good vs evil to its inevitable confrontation.
Both sides believe they are working for the better cause. Never threaten a new mother, especially a sleep deprived mother. They felt pushed to act.
Overall, the idea of creating covens and teaching witches how to use their magic responsibly is valuable. Helping them feel accepted and supported is a worthy cause. The need to cause mass destruction with the great darkness before education and light can begin was disconcerting.

This series must be read in order. At times it was a struggle to define its genre.
I appreciated the extended epilogue

Mona Hanna is an author of fantasy/romance books. She enjoys writing about love, magic, conflict, trials and the joy of overcoming them. Mona enjoys reading, movies, chocolate, and adores cats. She hopes to release many more fantasy books in the years to come.
